LIONS INTERNATIONAL
Lions Clubs began in the United States of America in 1917. A group of independent clubs responded to a call from a young Chicago insurance agent, Melvin Jones, to launch a club which had community service as its primary aim. Worldwide, the International Association of Lions Clubs has a membership of over 1.4 million in more that 180 countries and geographical areas.
LIONS AUSTRALIA
The first Australian Lions Club was formed in Lismore. From this over 1,400 clubs have grown, with a membership of over 30,000.
OUR CLUB – BELCONNEN
The Lions Club of Canberra Belconnen was formed on 30 November 1970, under the sponsorship of the Lions Club of Canberra – Metropolitan, and was Chartered on 27 February 1971. The Club now has over 50 dedicated members.
This Club is an active participant in the International, National, combined Districts and District activities such as Youth Exchange, Youth of the Year, recycling of used spectacles and used postage stamps, the Save Sight & Public Health Care Foundations, Identikid, Hearing Dogs and other similar community minded projects.
In addition, the Club has also actively supported Lions National Fund Raising Programmes for Christmas Cakes and Lions Mints.

Membership of the Canberra Belconnen Lions Club is open through application to the Membership Committee - see the “Officers” Section.
All people over the age of 18 years and of good moral character and reputation are welcome.
It is suggested that you come along to our Club meetings and talk to the members about our projects to help in your decision to join our Club.
